Indigenous People have been historically underserved and face systemic challenges, from sovereignty to land rights, from climate change to cultural erasure. To address these challenges, Indigenous People use technology to:
Preserve Indigenous culture and language through digital media
Analyze, map, and steward the land and ecology
Fight back against land encroachment and stealing of natural resources
We are a collection of technical people who seek to foster 1:1 relationships with individuals from Indigenous communities working on technical projects like these, in order to form a knowledge exchange—technical help in exchange for teachings about Indigenous knowledge, culture, and tradition, with the goal of fostering a better relationship to each other and with our natural environment.
This project is currently in development, so stay tuned for specific details on how to get involved. For a general picture of what we are envisioning:
We'll set up weekly, 3-4+ hour "office hour" sessions between you and a technical person to work through specific technical problem, bug, or general software design help that you might be facing with your current project.
During the call, time should be split equally between debugging and discussing Indigenous knowledge and culture because we believe in the equal exchange of knowledge.
If during the time you weren't able to find a solution, we'll schedule another call the following week and try again until we figure it out, together. Although we cannot commit to providing full, technical support for your project at the small scale we are operating now, we hope to be able to spend 1:1 time together to fix any existing problems that you may are facing right now!
